Kearney Nebraska Hotels

Nebraska is easy to think of as nothing more than corn fields and farms, but there's a lot more going on than you could ever count. On my last trip from Omaha to Denver, I noticed that I was traveling on Interstate 80 in Nebraska. I stopped to look at the communities that lie between the two places. This time of year I ride this route and it is one of my favorite routes to drive through Nebraska, and I am sure there is much more to do.

Interstate 80 offers you the opportunity to sit back and enjoy the peaceful farmland surrounding the road. There are many different species of animals and different nature scenes that I tried to capture with my camera phone, but there is a really nice walking path in the city, so grab your shoes and jump on it. The path runs along the lake, is covered with trees and runs through a lake, and there are a lot of great views of the river and mountains in the distance.

I was thrilled to see a farmers market in the middle of the countryside and was not disappointed. People I spoke to at the farmers market told me that the barbecue places in the city attract people from far away. I pushed six of us into a hotel in Kearney and we weren't disappointed! In 1877, the Kearney Press summarized the situation with this New York Daily News article on the city's economic situation.

The main salon at the back of the hotel was moved to the southeast corner and later there was a private dining room. In the Rose Hall, overcrowded gentlemen formed a circle around the east and south walls and soaked up the sun coming in through the large east window. Mrs. Collins describes it as being made of tarpaulin wood, and the top three floors would have been made of brick with shingle gables. The first floor was made of red Colorado sandstone and about the size of the second floor.

In addition to the lean-to house, Collins' home became the home of the Smith brothers, a group of young men who needed a home. Collins furnished the planks for the home, as well as a small kitchen, dining room, bathroom and laundry room.
